Modern day Tughlaq?

In an instance reminiscent of Mohammend bin Tughlaq’s shifting of the capital from Delhi to Daulatabad, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha has moved the entire government apparatus from the world class new secretariat back to its original location, the ramshackle St Fort George. Jayalalitha claims the decision was taken on logistical grounds as work on the new secretariat is incomplete, but the real reason is said to be her anathema towards her predecessor M. Karunanidhi who took personal interest in the construction of the Rs 1,500 monolithic structure. The country has pinned huge hopes on Jayalalitha who is hailed as a revolutionary leader, and it is expected of her to display greater political sagacity than be consumed by personal ego. Pursuing vindictive politics will do good neither to her nor to the State.
